March 11th, 2025, Charlottetown – P.E.I.’s Jenna Larter has capped her season on the long track speed skating oval in winning style, with her first national-level gold medals at Speed Skating Canada’s Long Track Canada Cup Final in Quebec City earlier this month. Larter skated to the top of the podium in both 500-metre events and picked up bronze medals in the two 1,000-metre races.

The Brookfield native, who now trains in Calgary with Canada’s NextGen speed skating program, opened the Canada Cup with a commanding 500-metre time of 38.99 seconds on the Quebec ice, nearly a second ahead of silver medalist Skylar Van Horne (39.88) and bronze medalist Alexa Scott (39.96), both from Manitoba. In the second 500-metre race, Larter posted an even faster time of 38.71 seconds. The mark was narrowly off her personal best of 38.67, skated earlier this season on the renowned fast ice of Calgary’s Olympic Oval. Scott (39.44) and Van Horne (39.46) traded steps on the podium. The 38.71 second time stands as the second fastest time skated outside of Calgary’s Olympic Oval by a female in Canada this season.
“I’m very happy with my performance at the Canada Cup Final,” commented Larter. “After a difficult season dealing with a concussion, I’m glad I was able to end the season with strong races.”
With the fast 500-metre times, Larter achieved Speed Skating Canada’s world cup qualifying time standard for the first time, opening the door to representing Canada at World Cup events outside of Canada. The Speed Skating PEI alumnus skated her first ISU World Cup in Calgary in January, alongside a veteran Canadian team which included 10 Olympians.
Larter’s sights will soon turn to the 2025-26 season, with much to compete for. “With next year being a very competitive Olympic season, I feel strong and confident going into it,” said Larter.
