November 7th, 2024, Charlottetown – Brendan Reynard and Tiernan Dewar will represent P.E.I. at the 2024 Canadian Neo Junior Short Track Championships in Rivière-du-Loup, QC this weekend. The Island pair will be competing for national titles at the event which features the country’s top 60 male and top 60 female skaters in the 14- and 15-year-old age groups.
Reynard and Dewar, both from Charlottetown, will be making their first trips to the Neo Junior Championships, but neither are strangers to national-level competition. Dewar competed last season at the Canadian Youth Long Track Championships, as well as the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships (East). At the long track event, he nabbed fifth place in the 500-metre distance. Reynard has made a pair of trips to the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships, where he notched a fourth-place finish in the 2,000-metre points race in Sherbrooke, QC in 2022.
Reynard recently led P.E.I.’s contingent at the Atlantic Cup Speed Skating Championships held in North Rustico, taking first place overall after sweeping to Division 1 wins in all five distances skated. Dewar, meanwhile, was close behind his Speed Skating PEI teammate, claiming second overall after finishing second in three distances and third in another distance.
Reynard and Dewar will race the 1,500- and 500-metre distances on Saturday in Rivière-du-Loup, and in the 1,000-metre event on Sunday. Races get underway at 8:30 am EST on both days and will be live streamed on Speed Skating Canada’s YouTube channel.
