February 20th, 2017, Charlottetown – Peter McQuaid of Charlottetown set a new P.E.I. record in short track speed skating over the weekend in Lévis, Quebec. McQuaid’s new mark came in the 1000 metre distance for Intermediate men, toppling Scott Beamish’s record time from October, 2010.

McQuaid was competing in a Quebec provincial circuit meet and earned eighth place overall in group two. Also representing P.E.I. at the event were Andrew McQuaid and Carly Connell.

Andrew McQuaid set a new personal best time in the 1000m distance enroute to an 11th place finish in group two, while Connell took ninth in group one for female skaters, after recording her best time in two seasons in the 500 metre sprint and capturing three B Final wins.

The Island trio are preparing for the Canadian Junior Selections #2 competition, being held in Trois-Rivières, Q.C. in March.
